Celebrating Creativity at the Periscope Pitch
On September 3, 2025, artists united at OZ Arts Nashville for the Periscope Pitch + Artist Entrepreneurial Showcase, a remarkable event hosted by the Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville. This program, a culmination of a year-long training, provided local artists with a chance to display their creativity and business acumen to the community, connecting their artistic visions with entrepreneurial opportunities.
Empowering Local Artists and Building Community
The Periscope Program aims to empower Nashville’s creative community by offering mentorship, resources, and a platform to showcase artistic talent. At the showcase, four standout artists—Jen Vogus, Valerie Michelle Wilhite Ramírez, Shaparak Malek-Morvai, and Amanda McCadams—received top awards, collectively exceeding $7,500 in cash and prizes.
Success Stories: Artists Making a Difference
Among the celebrated artists, Jen Vogus emerged victorious, taking home the esteemed Piedmont Natural Gas Pitch Perfect Award with a $2,500 prize. Vogus is not only a talented photographer but also a disability advocate. Her organization, AbleVoices, empowers individuals with disabilities through photography, fostering communication and connection.
Valerie Michelle Wilhite Ramírez, another award-winning artist, received the Fifth Third Bank Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award for her work as a metalsmith and founder of Montealegre Atelier. Her commitment to ethical sourcing in jewelry design highlights the intersection of artistry and responsibility.
Community Vote: Everyone Has a Voice
What makes the Periscope Pitch extraordinary is the community’s role in the selection process. Audience members cast digital votes for their favorite business pitch and showcase display, allowing everyone to engage in the celebration of creativity. This sense of involvement strengthens community ties, fostering an environment where local talents can thrive.
Networking and Inspiration: More Than Just an Event
The showcase was not only a runway for artistic expressions but also a networking hub. Attendees mingled with business leaders and fellow artists, opening avenues for future collaboration. Stephen Francescon from Piedmont Natural Gas emphasized the importance of supporting artists to transform their careers, further igniting the fire of inspiration among participants.
